Rangers transfer news: £6million Glen Kamara tipped for Southampton move amid James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia exits
Glen Kamara has been tipped to leave Rangers this summer to Southampton as the midfielder “ticks a lot of boxes” for the relegated English side, according to Dean Jones.
The Finnish international has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox under Michael Beale, with Nico Raskin signed in January and Kieran Dowell since added this summer in the central midfield department.
The Gers are going to need to bring in some cash in the transfer market to fund further business, with a price of £6million mooted [Daily Mail, 5 June], and Michael Beale has already suggested the 27-year-old could go, saying: “He is either going to be here for a considerable future or we will probably sell him this summer” [Daily Record, 1 June].

Now, former Eurosport journalist Jones has told GIVEMESPORT: “I haven’t heard too much about this one. But I do think on the face of it, Glen Kamara could be a good signing for Southampton and with James Ward-Prowse going, if they’re going to lose Lavia, if they’re going to lose some figures like that from the dressing room… Kamara ticks a lot of boxes.
“I think he could be a real asset to them as they look to bounce back to the Premier League.”
Green light
Kamara has been a part of a lot of the best parts of the recent history at Rangers but as one of the few first-team players who holds much value in the market he was always going to be at risk of an exit this summer.
At his age he would surely like to be starting every week, and while he is certainly a valuable option to have at Ibrox if money is no object Beale can’t give him that so it might be one that makes sense on all sides for him to go.
If there is anything like the mooted £6million asking price on offer then the Light Blues should jump at it considering the difference that could make to the manager as he seeks to strengthen.

That Joe Aribo made the move to St. Mary’s a year ago is a link that could make a reunion more likely, but the Nigerian hasn’t had a particularly enjoyable time on the south coast so it may even warn Kamara away from heading there.
Aribo has barely featured since the turn of the year, to the point where a return to Glasgow appeared possible, so he may not have too many good things to tell his former Gers teammate.
But with Russell Martin set to be appointed, possibly freeing up Beale to finally sign Morgan Whittaker from Swansea, the Saints will hope that the chaos of a three-manager relegation season can be put to bed.
With the likes of Ward-Prowse and Lavia highly-coveted in the Premier League it could give Aribo, and indeed Kamara, the chance to shine.
In other Rangers news, the potential exit of Beale to England has now been talked up as on the cards.
