Pundit moots Rangers ace Jack Butland to ‘follow in same footsteps’ of Celtic number one Joe Hart

Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur believes new Rangers signing Jack Butland can “follow in the same footsteps” of Celtic’s Joe Hart.

The Gers confirmed the signing of Butland from English Premier League club Crystal Palace on a four-year deal earlier this month.

The 30-year-old has agreed a pre-contract, and will officially join Rangers on July 1, as confirmed by the official Rangers website.

“He’ll probably be thinking he has something to prove as well, which is great for Rangers,” McArthur told the Daily Record. “Winning trophies will obviously be Jack’s aim.

“Joe Hart has done it at Celtic, he went up there after going through a spell when he wasn’t playing as much, like Jack, but has gone to Celtic Park and excelled. I really think that Jack can follow in the same footsteps.”

Fair comparison

Hart was an established English goalkeeper for some time before slightly fading from view, only to get another opportunity to shine at Celtic.

It was one he jumped at, and neither party have looked back since, with the veteran goalkeeper impressing between the sticks during his time in Glasgow.

He has become a fan favourite at Celtic Park, and looks set to continue in the club’s number one role for quite some time.

Butland will definitely be hoping to have a similar impact at Ibrox, with the experienced goalkeeper undoubtedly keen to help his new club close the gap on Hart’s Celtic and lift some silverware next season.

Celtic may not like it, but Hart will more than likely be giving new arrival Butland some much-needed advice amid the latter’s switch to Scotland.

The latter has it all ahead of him, with Hart already lifting plenty of silverware during his spell in the east end of Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack believes one Gers ace should have quit Ibrox after the 2021/22 Europa League final.
