Rangers injury news: John Souttar a major doubt for Scotland Euro 2024 qualifiers

Rangers defender John Soutter may be forced to withdraw from Scotland’s squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers after picking up an injury, according to the Daily Record.

The Tartan Army are set to travel to Oslo ahead of their crunch clash against Norway on Saturday (17 June) before hosting Georgia at Hampden Park (20 June).

Souttar, 26, missed the Scotland training camp in Spain last week after picking up a knock and is now in discussions with manager Steve Clarke and national team medics about whether to pull out of the squad entirely.

The centre-back is keen to stay with the group ahead of the Euro double-header.

Crushing blow

Michael Beale will be keeping a close eye on Souttar’s progress over the coming days and weeks following an injury-ravaged campaign at Ibrox.

Souttar missed a large chunk of the season through injury, managing to make just seven Scottish Premiership appearances.

Hopefully, this isn’t anything similar to the ankle injury which kept the defender sidelined for over six months, otherwise, it could spell problems for Rangers.

Rangers

The six-capped Scotland international was impressive after his return from injury, striking up a strong partnership with Connor Goldson in the heart of the Gers’ defence.

There was always going to be a little bit of rustiness, as highlighted by a couple of individual errors, but there is no denying that Souttar is a quality defender when he is fully fit and firing.

Hopefully, for him and Rangers, this injury isn’t a serious one, and he can still feature for the Tartan Army in one of the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.

In other Rangers news, a current Ibrox ace “will leave” once one of the aforementioned deals is completed.
