Pundit reacts as breakthrough emerges in Rangers transfer pursuit of Cyriel Dessers
Sergio Porrini believes that Cyriel Dessers is the ideal striker to replace Alfredo Morelos at Rangers with him set to leave Ibrox in June.
According to Corriere dello Sport (page 15, 8 June), the club are on the cusp of sealing a £4.2million agreement for the 28-year-old forward.
It’s understood that he will be leaving Cremonese post their relegation this past season.

Porrini, a former Gers player turned pundit, said, via the Scottish Sun, “Cyriel has big shoes to fill in Alfredo Morelos. It’s not easy to replace a player who has done so well, but I’m sure Cyriel can more than replace him.
“He’s the sort of player the fans will love. He’s at the right age, has good experience and won’t be fazed about replacing a player like Morelos.
“He’s played in a number of good leagues and scored goals. He’ll be confident in his ability.
“He can score more than 20 goals, I’m sure of that.”
Bring him in
If what Porrini is saying will be the case, then by all means, Dessers must be brought to Ibrox as soon as possible.
Replacing Morelos is a challenge as he may be a livewire behind the scenes, but on the field of play, he regularly delivers goals.
However, his conduct led to him severing ties with everyone at the club and he will now be walking out on a free transfer.

Getting someone like Dessers to replace him may not look like an upgrade on paper, given his age, but if he can get close to 20 league goals, then he’s worth it.
The deal is unlikely to be cheap but that’s what quality talent goes for these days and Gers have to be efficient with their business.
If other clubs enter the battle to sign him then things will be even more complicated so they need to sign him for the price he’s available at right now.
In other Rangers news, work permit issues have now emerged which means that the club may not be able to complete a major signing this summer.
