Gheorghe Hagi speculated to drum up public interest in Ianis Hagi amid potential Rangers exit

The father of Rangers ace Ianis Hagi will “no doubt’ drum up interest in the player in the near future, according to Daily Record journalist Ross Pilcher.

Hagi, who has been with the club since 2020, is the son of Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi.

But the Gers attacker was limited to just 11 appearances this season due to knee surgery, with his future reportedly up in the air amid the imminent arrival of Atalanta ace Sam Lammers.

“After over a year out with a knee injury, Ianis Hagi is understandably still working his way back to peak condition,” Pilcher wrote for the Daily Record.

“However, with a £3.5million deal for Atalanta forward Sam Lammers expected to be completed this week, the Romanian may find himself down the pecking order.

“He’ll get a chance to stake his claim over pre-season. But it may make good business sense to sell up if he’s not going to feature as much. No doubt dad Gheorghe will be drumming up some interest publicly before too long.”

Uncertain future

Hagi has endured a very tough time of late, with the attacker only recently getting back onto the pitch after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It would have been tough for the 24-year-old to have watched on as his teammates continued training and playing matches, and even tougher as he had to watch fierce rivals Celtic secure the treble.

But Hagi is talented, and Rangers fans will be hoping that the player can get back to his very best as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, however, time is against manager Michael Beale, with the boss making key transfer decisions essentially every day now ahead of the new campaign.

The man in the dugout is under immense pressure to get things right, and he certainly won’t want any players at the club who cannot help him achieve his goals.

This is where Hagi may factor in, with his unfortunate knee injury perhaps telling Beale that it is a risk to keep the player at the club knowing that he has just gone through a long spell on the sidelines, with many players historically not able to fully recover from such injuries.

In other Rangers news, Rabbi Matondo has sent a three-word social media message to former Ibrox ace Calvin Bassey.
