Rangers now on verge of completing £4.2m Cyriel Dessers transfer as Italian update emerges

Rangers are on the verge of signing Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers for around €5million (£4.2million), according to Corriere dello Sport.

The 28-year-old scored 10 goals in all competitions this season, having started the campaign at Belgian side Genk before his switch to Italy in August.

The forward represents Nigeria at international level and has three caps for the African nation.

“Other operations: Cyriel Dessers (28) from Cremonese is close to Rangers for about €5million (£4.2million),” according to Corriere dello Sport (page 15, 8 June).

Attack set to be bolstered

It is no surprise at all that Michael Beale is seemingly in the market for a striker, having lost fan-favourite Alfredo Morelos at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract at Ibrox.

Dessers will have big boots to fill if he does join the Scottish giants this summer, with fans set to be on his case from the very start given what is at stake.

Rangers supporters were left frustrated all season as they were forced to watch fierce rivals Celtic win the treble under Ange Postecoglou, although he has given the Gers some relief after agreeing to become the new boss of Tottenham.

But Beale will want to keep the focus on his own team, with the manager needing a regular source of goals in the final third, having also lost star winger Ryan Kent, with the future of former loanee Malik Tillman also up in the air.
