Rangers can sign former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley for free amid fresh BBC update
Rangers now have the glorious opportunity to sign ex Chelsea and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley on a free transfer this summer.
According to the BBC [09 June], his contract at Nice is expiring in June and he will not be signing a new deal at the Ligue 1 outfit.
Last summer, the 29-year-old was an option for Gers and with him being available on a free transfer, they may enter the market again for him.

Football Scotland journalist Mark Hendry reported in September 2022 on Twitter, “Hearing that Rangers also feel they’ve done their summer work and don’t expect anything late, in or out. That could change with Kamara rumours swirling. Ross Barkley remains an option if he doesn’t sign anywhere tonight.”
The two-time FA Cup winner did end up moving to Nice over Rangers but there’s nothing that says they will not be back in for him this summer.
He will arrive at Ibrox with some much-needed winners’ mentality and this will be a signing that will have low risks.

For starters, the Bears will not shell out a transfer fee as he’ll arrive for free and even if he does not become an immediate starter, he can provide depth in other areas of the pitch.
In the past, his injuries have kept him out of action for a while, however, in 2022/23, he featured in nearly 30 league games and did not have any major concerns.
SPFL is less physical than the French league and it would be an ideal place for him to thrive if an offer does arrive at his table.
In other Rangers news, work permit issues have now emerged which means that the club may not be able to complete a major signing this summer.
