Rangers and Celtic transfer news as Los Angeles FC attacker Kwadwo Opoku eyed

Rangers and Celtic are set to square off for the signature of Los Angeles FC attacker Kwadwo Opoku this summer, according to Fussball Transfers.

The 21-year-old is valued at £3-£4.1million, with the American club having the option to extend his contract by another year when it expires at the end of the MLS season in December.

The German publication reported that Stuttgart made contact with the winger’s representatives this Wednesday (7 June), but no offer has been placed on the table yet.

After the departures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent from Ibrox this summer, Michael Beale will feel he needs several additions to his forward line in order to compete for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

Now that the latter is out of the picture, the Gers only really have Fashion Sakala and Rabbi Matondo to call upon as natural wingers, as well as Todd Cantwell also being able to play in this position.

Although Opoku is relatively unexposed at the top level, he fits the Beale profile down to a T.

Since arriving at Ibrox, the Englishman has largely looked to sign young players who will only increase in value over the coming years.

The likes of Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in the winter window, as well as Dujon Sterling, most recently, highlighted the fresh legs that the first-team squad was in need of after a string of poor transfer windows under Ross Wilson.

Getting one over on Celtic would be a brilliant start to a summer transfer window which will hopefully change Rangers’ fortunes moving forward.

In other Rangers news, a fourth name is set to arrive at Ibrox before a change in priority for Beale.
