Rangers make offer to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel, Fenerbahce yet to reply

Rangers have tabled an offer to sign Fenerbahce full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel this summer, according to Turkish publication Sporx.

The 25-year-old previously had suitors from the Premier League, with both Leeds United and Bournemouth interested in his services for a fee of around £9million. [A Spor, 29 May]

The Sporx report states that it is still unclear how Fenerbache will reply to this new bid from the Gers, but the Osayi-Samuel has already expressed his desire to leave the Turkish club this summer.

The Nigerian international, who used to play for Championship side QPR, is a versatile full-back who can also play in a wing-back role on either flank.

Not needed

Although Osay-Samuel is the ideal kind of player who could be used as an understudy for James Tavernier, Rangers have already filled this void through the acquisition of Dujon Sterling.

With two right-back’s already in their ranks, and considering the previously reported £9million pricetag, this looks like a deal that Michael Beale should steer clear of.

Yes, the first-team squad is in need of major upheaval this summer, but options in the final third, especially at centre-forward, should be the club’s number one priority.

After the departures of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, this is now the one area that is in need of bolstering in the transfer window.

Osayi-Samuel is able to push forward into a winger role when needed after spending the early stages of his career in this position, but he has now transformed into a full-back at Fenerbahce.

This is one for the Gers to avoid getting sucked into.

In other Rangers news, work permit issues have now emerged which means that the club may not be able to complete a major signing this summer.
