Rangers transfer news: Jose Cifuentes to be followed by striker signings in Ibrox ‘priority’ update – Chris Jack

The Rangers transfer window is showing no signs of slowing down after the confirmed signing of Jack Butland, with strikers on the agenda once Jose Cifuentes is through the doors, according to Chris Jack.

The former Crystal Palace keeper was announced as the third Michael Beale signing of the summer on Tuesday (6 June), ticking one major box after the departure of Allan McGregor in goal.

With a third midfielder on the cards imminently in the form of LAFC’s Cifuentes, it will then be attack that the Ibrox boss works to strengthen with Alfredo Morelos also gone.

Writing in the Glasgow Times Jack said: “The signings of Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland represent an encouraging start to the summer for Beale.

“Jose Cifuentes, the Ecuadorian midfielder, will follow and the acquisition of a striker, or more than one to be precise, will soon become the priority as the Ibrox squad is overhauled.”

Provided the club aren’t rushing deals for the sake of speed then the early developments are exactly what the fans would have hoped for as the end of the season approached.

Beale suggested he had been hard at work on recruitment even before the final game so it appears that Rangers have got off to an excellent start to their transfer business.

There’s a long way to go still but if the long-awaited, and long-trailed on his social media, signing of Cifuentes is set to be wrapped up imminently it would mark a very encouraging four-man burst to start the summer.

Rangers

Butland answers a key question in goal, with Robby McCrorie set to move up to number two as Jon McLaughlin may leave [Daily Record, 6 June], but it is going to be in attack that the real difference is made.

Morelos, despite his faults, was a big part of the Light Blues’ successes in recent years, so with him gone there is a big gap to fill.

Since the Rangers boss wants more than one striker during this window it isn’t a ringing endorsement for the long-term futures of either Antonio Colak or Kemar Roofe.

But whether exits are planned at the position or not Beale is going to need options if the recent injury history at Ibrox is anything to go by.

In other Rangers news, confirmed Gers transfer news has been tipped to “lift” the club just at the time that Celtic are looking “unstable”.
