Rangers transfer news as eight new signings predicted at Ibrox

Rangers have been tipped to deliver eight new players over the summer transfer window, as things stand, by Steven Clifford, speaking on the Rangers Review morning briefing [06 June].

The Four Lads Had A Dream writer was speaking in his regular slot on the live Rangers Review show, in which he predicted a further four new signings to be identified in the coming weeks.

That is in addition to Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland who have already been confirmed, whilst Jose Cifuentes is said to be an imminent arrival [Daily Record].

In a discussion with Joshua Barrie, Clifford outlined his assessment of the state of play on Rangers’ transfer business.

“If we’re still looking in terms of numbers, I still think eight (players to come in),” he said.

“That’s where I’m at. It could be one either side but eight for me is a reasonable guess at where we’ll do business. I would expect Jose Cifuentes to come in, judging by reports.

“Then that gives you four (after Dowell, Sterling, Butland.) I still think a centre-back is coming in, a left-sided player that Beale has spoken about before so that leaves three for forward positions.

“If you’re looking at direct replacements, for Kent, Morelos and then another number nine, maybe a dynamic on the right-hand side.”

Expected

It is quite a fair assessment of where things stand, and that is without any sales which could lead to one or two more.

Beale has gone on record to state that he wants to trim down the numbers in the squad and he is right to do that.

There is no point carrying a bloated group, with too many sitting in the stand on a match day, wasting wage resources as well. Injuries and other matters will bite, as always, during the campaign but a lean, mean, squad is what you want.

On top of the four names featured already, there is an expectation that significant firepower will arrive in the coming weeks.

There has been significant speculation over recent days in regard to Cyriel Dessers, with Sam Lammers and Ike Ugbo also linked. All three are strikers, in a similar mould, who will be tasked with leading the line, following the departure of Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers need not just one but three players who will contribute a sustained impact in terms of goals and assists in the new campaign.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have been sent an injury warning regarding one of Beale’s new signings.
