Kevin Thomson confirms Michael Beale talks as Rangers plan summer overhaul

Kevin Thomson has revealed that he’s had talks with Michael Beale and Rangers CEO James Bisgrove but is yet to discuss his role if he returns.

The 38-year-old Scotsman has gone on record to admit that he’s open to returning to the club and that he will be answering the phone if Beale gets in touch with him again.

Per the Daily Record [07 June], a “major summer overhaul” is planned at Ibrox in terms of personnel on and off the pitch.

He said on their Off The Record podcast, “I’ve spoken to James, off the cuff, and I’ve spoken to Mick but I’m not the type to ask for an opportunity. If they think I could benefit the club, I’m sure they will pick up the phone.

“Rangers should only ever want the best coaches and available people at any given time – that’s how I view it – if you have a vision of where you want to get to. I would take a head of academy job tomorrow. I feel as though I could implement a lot of the ideas we have in my own academy, which is doing a good job.”

Will be decent

Having players at the club that love the history and culture is paramount and Thomson is certainly one of them.

He does not have to come in and make the big decisions as he can grow into his role and offer inputs on things he’s got experience with.

The fact that he was very recently a professional means that he’ll have some fresh ideas which the club could look to implement.

The academy players will also be impressed if he’s on board as a few of them will have watched him play and certainly heard of him.

It remains to be seen if Beale or Bisgrove end up calling him but there is a feeling that they appreciate what he would bring to the table.

The fact that he’s talking to them means that something could be brewing behind the scenes, but he may not want to disclose it just yet.

In other Rangers news, work permit issues have now emerged which means that the club may not be able to complete a major signing this summer.
