Ally McCoist shares Rangers verdict as Ange Postecoglou Celtic exit to Tottenham Hotspur confirmed
Ally McCoist has admitted that Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic exit to Tottenham is “excellent” news for Rangers ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Postecoglou has left Celtic for the Premier League after two seasons at Parkhead, the most recent ending with him winning a domestic treble and beating Rangers to the title.
But with Michael Beale planning a major overhaul at Ibrox this summer and Postecoglou now leaving Celtic and leaving them in disarray, McCoist has tipped them to lose some key players too and backed it to spice up the rivalry a little bit more for the new season.

“The interesting thing now is a couple of the Celtic boys I know are thinking he will come and swoop for one or two of his former players, whether it is Kyogo or Hatate – and certainly Carter-Vickers has had an excellent season,” he said on talkSPORT (7 June).
“That remains to be seen, will Celtic keep their squad? Who is going to come in and if they will want to change the squad and make changes.
“Certainly it has spiced things up, which from a Rangers point of view is excellent.”
Moving parts
The expectation heading into the summer was that there would be plenty of change at Rangers this summer and that we would have to gel quickly and hit the ground running to catch Celtic.
But they’re now likely to undergo a makeover that is just as big heading into the new season with a new manager and players coming and going.

That makes it a much more even playing field when it comes to competing for trophies and against each other, which can only be a good thing for Rangers and Beale.
McCoist knows that there needs to be a big swing on the pitch this season for us to be successful, with Beale knowing that his only win against that lot has come in a dead-rubber when the title was already won in their favour.
Changes need to be made and are well on their way at Ibrox, but now we’ve been given the added advantage of uncertainty down the road too.
In other Rangers news, a “transfer war” is set as rival clubs make contact with this Ibrox ace over a summer move.
