Rangers and Manchester United in transfer battle for Chicago Fire midfielder Brian Gutierrez

Rangers and Manchester United are reportedly in a transfer battle to secure the services of Chicago Fire midfielder Brian Gutierrez.

According to the Daily Mail [5 June], Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Girona are also keen on signing the 19-year-old.

He’s already made 74 appearances for Chicago despite still only being a teenager and is understood to be on the cusp of an international cap for the United States.

Interesting talent

The 19-year-old has been labelled as one of the “most talented” midfield prospects in the United States which is saying something given how quickly the game’s growing there.

Before becoming a regular for the senior team, he was on fire for the academy as well and that was an early sign of just how good a player he could turn out to be.

Despite being a midfielder, he managed to score 28 goals and provide 39 assists in 73 starts (79 games) – which is an impressive feat for even an attacking player.

Rangers

Goals have obviously become scarce at the senior level, but that’s understandable given he must be playing deeper and doing a lot more off the ball.

A move to Europe is the next step for him and it remains to be seen if they can beat United, Dortmund and other clubs to secure his services.

It’s not going to be easy but he has a realistic chance of immediately playing first-team football at Ibrox – something he may not get at other clubs.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
