Official Rangers partner mocks John Hartson reaction as Ange Postecoglou leaves Celtic for Tottenham job

John Hartson’s reaction to the news that Ange Postecoglou was set to leave Celtic to take over at Tottenham saw him continue a “battle against the English language” according to official Rangers partner Heart & Hand.

The Australian’s move to the Premier League was all but confirmed on Monday (5 June), with both Sky Sports and Fabrizio Romano reporting a deal was on, and his reputation has already taken a hit at Parkhead as a result.

Ex-Hoops striker Hartson, while his take on developments didn’t totally make sense, is also clearly unhappy.

Harton posted on Twitter amid the news on Postecoglou: “My underwhelming view on Ange is disappointing. Yes he’s done an amazing job at Celtic.. and respect totally the 5 medals in 2 seasons.. his head has been turned in last 2 months.”

Then in reaction to that Heart & Hand wrote: “John’s continuing battle against the English language never fails to inspire”.

No fan is going to be jumping for joy when their title-winning manager leaves for the Premier League, as Rangers supporters will know all too well from Steven Gerrard’s departure to Aston Villa a year and a half ago.

But even so the negative reaction to Postecoglou taking the Spurs job has been swift, and having won five of the six domestic trophies available too him hasn’t mattered much to some now he’s on the way out.

Short of winning a European trophy there’s not much more he could do at Parkhead in the short-term, and his exit has perhaps opened the door for Michael Beale to take advantage on the other side of his summer rebuild.

The Ibrox boss caused fury when he left QPR for the Light Blues in November after affirming his commitment to the Championship side, and perhaps Postecoglou has fallen foul of the same situation after dismissing previous links to jobs in England.

But Tottenham are currently a significant step up from the likes of Everton and relegated Leeds United, so it isn’t the biggest surprise that he has decided he wants to make the change now.

Celtic at least have the entire summer to appoint a replacement and give them a full transfer window and preseason to work with, none of which Giovanni van Bronckhorst had the luxury of when he replaced Gerrard, so it could be a lot worse.

But clearly, Hartson and many others are less than impressed that their treble-winning boss is headed for North London just days after lifting the Scottish Cup.

In other Rangers news, Heart & Hand have shared a “technical” hitch at Crystal Palace to the incoming Jack Butland deal.
