Fabrizio Romano shares Jack Butland contract update as Rangers on verge of new transfer

Manchester United loanee Jack Butland has reportedly signed a contract at Rangers which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2027.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Crystal Palace owned goalkeeper is set to seal his move to the 55-time champions.

He will not be signed permanently by United or a new deal at Selhurst Park as he’s set to be the club’s number one goalkeeper.

Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “Jack Butland signs as new Rangers FC goalkeeper — understand contract will be valid until June 2027, four year deal.”

Good move

A four-year deal is a sign that the club trusts the keeper for the long term and it’s a nice way of rewarding their faith.

Butland appeared to have lost his way in the past few seasons and hopefully, he regains form and confidence and helps Rangers challenge for the title again.

He’s arriving at Ibrox in a similar fashion as Todd Cantwell as even the midfielder was on the radar of some big clubs but completely fell out of the reckoning at Norwich.

Rangers

Butland is only 30 so he’s got a fair share of time and this is arguably the peak age for a goalkeeper so fans can expect to see him at his best.

It remains to be seen how good his ball-playing abilities are as he’s played in systems where the keepers do not really build out from the back.

Manchester United do that under Erik ten Hag but Butland’s not featured for the Red Devils and will leave without a single appearance.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
