Rangers transfer news as Ianis Hagi tipped for Spain move already

Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi has been tipped to play in Spain, with his Dad backing the prospect of a move as reported by Marca, shared by the Daily Record.

His legendary father, Gheorghe, a superstar of the game who played for Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga claimed that such a move would be “good for him”.

Hagi made his return to Michael Beale’s squad for the latter stage of the season and his personal highlight came in the 3-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road on 21 May when he scored his first goal in 15 months.

As Hagi Snr reflected on his time with the two giants of Spanish football, his son isn’t likely to play at that level but his style of play would be suited to plenty of clubs in the league.

“He’s had a difficult year, but I’ve seen him doing well again in the last few months,” he said.

“He’s started to play again, he’s started some games at Rangers now and he’s feeling good. Hopefully, he can continue as he was before.

“I played in Spain for many years and hopefully, one day, Ianis can go too. He is happy at Rangers, but football in Spain would be good for him”.

Finding form

It was great to see Hagi Junior back in the team and amongst the goals recently, but he still has some way to go in order to force his way into Michael Beale’s plans as an important first-choice player.

There is no question about his technical ability or his application, but does he have the intensity and consistency required to hit the ground running in the new campaign? Doubtful.

His lack of pace is a hindrance, but as he’s never been gifted with speed, the Romanian international looks to make up for it in other ways.

He needs a lot of game time to get back to his best, that is the key to finding form but it’s hard to see that happening at Ibrox in terms of playing 25-30 games a starter.

He can certainly play a role for Rangers but he is also a sellable asset and if any clubs come in with a suitable offer, he could be on his way, to Spain or elsewhere.
