Nicolas Raskin could miss the start of Rangers pre-season after international call-up

Rangers could be without Nicolas Raskin for the start of their pre-season this summer after he was called up to the Belgium squad for the Under-21 European Championships.

Raskin is yet to be capped by the senior team but was named in the provisional squad for the tournament being held this summer in Georgia at the end of the month.

Should he be named in the full squad and then the team get deep into the tournament, he would be unlikely to return to Rangers training at the same time as the rest of his teammates in July according to The Sun (2 June).

Blow

Obviously Raskin has had a head start on the new-look Ranger side we will next season after arriving in January and establishing himself as first-choice in the heart of the midfield.

But Michael Beale will surely have wanted his whole squad together to implement his ideas on the training ground and get the team gelling as much and as quickly as possible before the season starts.

Chasing down Celtic is going to be a mighty task next season if the way this season went is anything to go by, and the manager has promised big changes.

Raskin is a big part of that with his aggressive yet technical style of play and he is a key cog in the machine with the way Beale wants to play, so him being in the training sessions would have been a big help.

Thankfully though he should return with more than enough time to get up to speed before the season actually begins, and that should see a full-strength side for the campaign opener.
