Rangers transfer news: Door opens for Michael Beale to sign ‘top target’ Lyndon Dykes with striker set to leave QPR

Rangers target Lyndon Dykes is set to be sold this summer after he failed to agree a new contract at QPR, according to Football League World.

The striker was managed by Michael Beale for the first few months of the season before the now-Ibrox boss’ infamous departure to Glasgow, and is now available for a reunion after talks collapsed in West London.

The Sunday Mirror’s Darren Witcoop reported on 21 April that the 27-year-old was a “top target” for the Light Blues this summer as Beale is a “big fan”.

He is set to enter the final year of his contract at Loftus Road now that talks have broken down over an extension, and sources have reportedly told Football League World he is will now likely be sold during the upcoming window.

Reunion

Not every fan will be jumping out of their seat at the prospect of signing the Scotland international, after he scored just eight Championship goals in 39 league appearances this season.

However, six of those came under Beale before his 28 November switch to take over at Rangers, so it suggests the Gers boss can get the best out of Dykes.

The transfer budget isn’t thought to be huge at Ibrox this summer despite the need to do extensive business at multiple positions, so the fact that the QPR man has just a year left and should be available for a cut-price could make him all the more of an attractive option for Beale.

Alfredo Morelos is gone, Kemar Roofe’s injury problems keep him out of action frequently, and Beale’s latest assessment on Antonio Colak’s future wasn’t exactly an emphatic backing so it is likely that more than one striker will need to come in this summer.

As the number one option the eight-goal Scotland international might be seen as a downgrade on the departing Colombian, but on a reasonably-priced deal to form part of a committee next season it could make sense.

In one season and three games Dykes scored 11 times in the SPFL for Livingston before he left for England, and if Beale is keen on a reunion the door looks to have opened for him to hand his former charge the opportunity to add to that.
