Rangers attacker Alex Lowry expresses personal disappointment at Ibrox

Rangers’ Alex Lowry has expressed his personal disappointment on this season in a message posted on his Instagram account (2 June).

The 19-year-old did not achieve much in terms of progression in and around Michael Beale’s first-team squad but he also had a significant injury which ruled him out for a few months.

More importantly, Lowry had to contend with a very personal situation which would also have impacted his football, but he is looking forward and has sent a message of intent ahead of a critical period for him at Ibrox.

It is encouraging that he is reflecting on his situation and clearly, he has aspirations on making much more of an impact at Rangers.

“Very disappointing season for me personally,” he said.

“Thank you everyone for the support! We go again next year.”

Impact

Lowry’s window of opportunity at Ibrox won’t last for too long.

He is very talented but he needs to work on other areas of his game, to bring it all together as well as improving his consistency on a day-to-day basis in training.

That is something that Beale has touched on previously, but he has faith in the player, the rest is up to him.

He recorded 10 appearances over the 2022/23 campaign but the vast majority came off the bench in the final stages of games, although those did include brief cameos against Ajax in the Champions League and the recent Old Firm success at Ibrox, against Celtic.

Next season has to be the one when Lowry makes a sustained impact at Ibrox. Previously, loan enquiries have been rebuffed so it will be interesting to see if that approach changes.

Either way, he knows that he needs to make progress towards fulfilling his significant potential very soon.
