Rangers want two strikers as transfer news kept under wraps at Ibrox this summer

Rangers are in the market for two strikers this summer but are keeping their cards close to their chest on transfer targets, according to The 4th Official.

Alfredo Morelos was one of five players released by the Gers, who are aiming to shake their squad up under Michael Beale in the upcoming window.

The likes of Josh Maja and Joel Piroe are among those to have been linked with a switch to Ibrox but seemingly there are some unknown entities on Rangers’ wishlist.

“As for strikers, most of the rumours out there have no basis in reality,” The 4th Official Report read.

“The club do want to get in at least two strikers, and so far they have made sure that none of their primary targets are known to the media. I wish I knew more this, but at this point, I don’t.”

Wise move to keep things in house

Rangers certainly have work to do if they are to reign in Celtic next season.

A tally of 92 points is certainly not to be scoffed at, but the fact their Old Firm rivals were just one shy of a century shows there is still a chasm to be breached.

Of course, if Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou gets enticed by the Tottenham and the Premier League that may help, but Michael Beale is going about things the right way in the meantime.

There has been little room for sentiment, with Morelos joined by Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield in departing Ibrox.

Reinforcements are needed, and indeed Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling have already agreed to join.

But when it comes to their striker hunt, it is a pretty wise move from Beale and company to be keeping schtum about who is on Rangers’ radar. Alerting other clubs could lead to battles for signatures.

In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano says the club are closing in on a new signing after latest negotiations.
