Rangers keeper Jon McLaughlin scenarios detailed as Jack Butland closes in on Ibrox transfer
Jon McLaughlin could reportedly be on his way out of Rangers this summer, either on a loan deal or even on a permanent basis.
According to the Glasgow Times [1 June], it’s widely expected that Manchester United loanee Jack Butland will be coming to Ibrox.
This paints a “grim picture” for the future of McLaughlin, 35, who is unlikely to be the first choice even after Allan McGregor’s exit.

Should be sold
If Butland is coming in, then he’ll be the first choice and it makes no sense to keep a keeper who’s in his final years of his professional career.
With time still left on the two-time Scotland international’s contract, Gers must look at potential avenues for him as there surely will be clubs willing to take a punt on him.
Even at 35, he could be a good first-choice keeper for most teams in the SPFL and could even look at options in the Championship or League One south of the border.

A loan would make very little sense as he’s in the final year of his deal so this appears to be the summer they can get decent money for him.
It remains to be seen how Butland’s arrival impacts the dynamic because it is also important for the club to raise funds through outgoings.
Losing big names like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos on free transfers is certainly devastating but it’s something the club needs to cope with.
In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
