Rangers resurgence on the cards if Ange Postecoglou joins Spurs as manager – Brian Laudrup
Ange Postecoglou joining Tottenham as manager this summer would open the door for a Rangers resurgence in Scottish football, according to Brian Laudrup.
Since joining the Hoops in 2021, the Australian manager has secured back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles, but he has recently been linked with taking the vacant opportunity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. [The Independent, 27 May]
Writing in his Daily Mail column (30 May), former Gers player Laudrup admitted that Michael Beale’s side will find it hard to supplant Celtic next season either way, but strong recruitment this summer could open the door in the long run.

He wrote: “A lot of Rangers fans — and I think Michael Beale as well — would love to see Postecoglou move on from Celtic. In my view, it would actually be a feather in the cap of Scottish football if his excellent achievements in the Premiership were recognised by an approach from a club such as Spurs.
“Were he to accept, Celtic would obviously do everything to find the best possible replacement.
“Often, though, it takes a little while for a new manager to put across his own ideas and make the changes he wants. A degree of uncertainty is introduced.
“Postecoglou leaving wouldn’t give Rangers the upper hand for next season. Not with the structure and the squad the Australian has put in place at Parkhead.
“But it would, at least, give my old club a chance to even things up if they got their own business right this summer. That latter point remains absolutely critical, regardless of what happens with Postecoglou.”

Huge factor
Postecoglou moving to Spurs could well redefine Scottish football for many years to come.
Since arriving at Celtic Park, the Australian has created a winning juggernaut that have proven too much for both Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Beale to contend with so far.
However, a change in boss is always going to bring a likely downturn in form.
If Postecoglou were to leave this summer, who on earth could they get into the job who could do as good a job, and would they be as strong as Beale?
Since arriving at Ibrox, the Englishman has proven himself a shrewd tactician who also has a decent eye for a bargain in the transfer market.
Although Rangers failed to beat their Old Firm rivals in their first four encounters, the 3-0 win at Ibrox was a real step in the right direction. Everybody at the club will be hoping that a strong summer could help the club compete for the Scottish Premiership next season, even if Postecoglou is still in charge.
In other Rangers news, English clubs have been left in the dust after a player agreement is confirmed at Ibrox.
