Sir Kenny Dalglish tells Rangers how to spend ‘significant amounts of wages’ after Ibrox announcement

Sir Kenny Dalglish has told Rangers how to spend the “significant amounts of wages” that are now available at the club.

The cash boost comes after the Gers announced that five players will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.

Scott Arfield, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos will all exit at the end of the season, as confirmed by the official Rangers website.

“They (Rangers) have a massive period coming up with Champions League qualifiers on the horizon,” Dalglish wrote for The Sunday Post (page 20 of pull out, 28 May). “They will be without Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield and Filip Helander.

“The departure of that five will free up significant amounts of wages but they will need to spend on new recruits if they want to replace them with similar quality.”

Replacements needed

Rangers boss Michael Beale has already been busy when it comes to transfers, with Norwich man Kieran Dowell agreeing to move to Ibrox at the beginning of the transfer window.

But the Gers manager will definitely not stop there, with several new faces expected to arrive in the coming weeks, perhaps sooner rather than later.

A case could be made for some of the outgoing players to have been handed an extension for another year, with many Gers fans believing the likes of Arfield and McGregor in particular could have still done a job for the club next season.

But Beale clearly has a strategy in mind, and it looks certain to involve having a younger, fresher squad.

It’s definitely a risk, with the manager undoubtedly set to come under immense pressure in the dugout if his new-look squad do not immediately hit the ground running in the new campaign.

In other Rangers news, Serie A clubs Bologna and Udinese have joined the race to sign one Gers player this summer.
