Rangers ace Todd Cantwell hits back at Chris Sutton criticism with ‘probably a dive’ jibe after draw v Hearts

Rangers ace Todd Cantwell has fired back at Chris Sutton after the pundit accused the player of going “down a bit easy” against Hibernian on Sunday (21 May).

Cantwell won a free-kick from CJ Egan-Riley’s tackle in the Scottish Premiership clash at Easter Road, which James Tavernier scored from.

The Gers midfielder has now taken to social media to hit back at Sutton, showing off his scars after the 2-2 draw with Hearts on Wednesday (24 May).

“He went down a bit easy for the free-kick, he has to watch that, hasn’t he?” said Sutton, as per Football on BT Sport (23 May). “Referees will eventually cotton on.”

Cantwell then posted an image of his leg on Instagram after his club’s draw with Hearts, with the caption: “Probably a dive.”

Cantwell has responded to his critics perfectly, with the midfielder now scoring in four successive matches following his well-taken goal against Hearts.

He now has six goals and five assists in total for the Gers, and is quickly becoming one of Michael Beale’s most important players.

The manager is currently doing his utmost to build a new squad for next season, and he would do well to build it around midfield ace Cantwell, who has become an instant hit at Ibrox since his summer move from Norwich City.

Gers fans will be hoping that fellow Canary Kieran Dowell, and indeed any other new arrivals at Ibrox for the upcoming campaign, can have a similar impact that Cantwell has had in blue.

Picking up fouls in key areas is just one part of his game, with the Gers attacker recently proving that he knows how to find the back of the net when handed the opportunity.
