Rangers on brink of Jose Cifuentes agreement as 'serious' proposal emerges
Rangers are on the brink of reaching a full agreement to sign LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to Ecuadorian news outlet, Ecuagol.
The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano had claimed (via Twitter, 18 May) that the Light Blues were in talks with the 24-year-old midfielder. However, speaking in his latest press conference, Michael Beale revealed a deal was not close to being completed (Heart and Hand Podcast, 19 May).
Ecuagol have since reported on 21 May, that “almost everything” is agreed upon for the Ecuador international to complete his move to Ibrox.
Cifuentes featured for LAFC on Sunday evening and was a standout performer during the 2-1 win over San Jose.
Looking likely
This is looking like a move which could well happen. Beale has played down the links but we all know that’s a trick managers like to play.
It prevents other teams from becoming interested and trumping the Gers. He looks like an impressive athlete and could well add a new dynamic to the midfield. With John Lundstram and Ryan Jack set to stay at Ibrox, more athleticism is certainly required and the Ecuadorian could provide that.
Furthermore, the 24-year-old is a goal threat. Todd Cantwell will likely be joined by Kieran Dowell in attacking midfield, but the Gers lack a player who can break the lines from deep.
The fanbase will be delighted to see Beale get most of his transfer preparations done early. If the Rangers boss wants to rip up his squad and change the dynamic at Ibrox, he will have to get to work fast. This is one to keep a keen eye on.
In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
