BBC Scotland pundit slams ‘slow motion’ Robbie McCrorie after what he saw in Rangers 3-1 win v Hibs

Steven Thomson was unimpressed by a “slow motion” response by Robby McCrorie in Rangers’ 3-1 win at Hibs on Sunday (21 May).

The Gers ultimately ran out comfortable winners at Easter Road thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell.

But it could have been a completely different story with Hibs almost level shortly after the break when goalkeeper McCrorie flapped at Chris Cadden’s header back across goal from Joe Newell’s dinked cross, with Kevin Nisbit nodding agonisingly wide of the post.

Rangers

“I don’t think Robby McCrorie covered himself in glory there. Nisbet won the header well, it was slow motion stuff,” former Rangers striker Thomson said as a pundit for BBC Sport.

“It must have gone about an inch past the post.”

McCrorie at last-chance saloon

It was not a convincing moment from McCrorie in the slightest and it comes at a time where he really needs to show Michael Beale he is worthy of a place in his Rangers squad next season.

McCrorie may still be quite young for a goalkeeper at 25 but realistically he needs to be playing week in, week out and with Jack Butland expected to sign on at Ibrox as part of a summer rebuild he may find himself playing second fiddle next season.

Rangers

In truth, Hibs did not trouble Rangers nearly enough in this contest, and in games like that where your goalkeeper can be somewhat of a bystander you need to have trust they can come up big.

Will Beale really have that faith in McCrorie? Well, the fact that Butland is even on his radar suggests not and you more than strong sense that this is the last-chance saloon for the Gers’ shot-stopper.

In other Rangers news, an announcement is expected soon on summer player departures at Ibrox.
