Graeme Souness Rangers return mooted as James Bisgrove speaks out

Incoming Rangers CEO James Bisgrove has spoken out after rumours emerged of Graeme Souness potentially returning to the club.

Talk emerged online of the former Liverpool legend potentially being the face of a new regime at Ibrox.

However, Bisgrove has confirmed that the rumour mill got a bit “carried away” in his first press conference since taking the job at Ibrox.

“Graeme was in Glasgow anyway, popped in for a coffee. He may be involved in an ambassadorial role but the rumour mill got a bit carried away,” said Bisgrove (Heart and Hand Podcast, 19 May).

Pinch of salt

It’s clear the rumours of Souness’ return were just that, rumours. Nothing more. He evidently has a lot of affection for the Gers and, like all of us, is desperate for success. However, the change we have been clamouring for has now occurred.

Bisgrove has been given the unenviable task of bringing success back to Ibrox alongside John Bennett at the top of the club. One of his first moves should be looking to land a new director of football, and fast. We are heading into a huge summer, with there set to plenty of players heading in and out of the club.

Ross Wilson’s departure needed to happen. There’s no denying his time at the club needed to come to an end. He simply couldn’t risk another poor transfer window.

There appears to be plenty going on in terms of incomings, with Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Jose Cifuentes all close to moving to the Scottish giants.

In other Rangers news, one of Beale’s favourites could well be on his way out of the club.
