Rangers sued as another legal battle on cards at Ibrox

Rangers are involved in another legal wrangle amid news of a £338,000 battle over a kiosk payment system, as reported by the Daily Record.

The club is being sued by Southbank Asset Finance Ltd, via the trading companies Sporting Pay and Paytek in a civil hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

However, Rangers are contesting the claims with the response that Sporting Pay broke a sponsorship agreement.

The Record report set out the full details of the dispute as well as the counter-claim made by the club.

“Rangers are fighting the claims and that Sporting Pay also broke a sponsorship agreement,” it said

“The club teamed up with Sporting Pay in early 2020 to provide cashless payment equipment throughout its stadium.

“Sporting Pay was to provide 216 terminals with software at Ibrox and “maintain it in good working condition throughout the period of their appointment.”

Further distraction

This latest report creates more negative headlines for the club, but it is clear that the club feels they have very strong grounds for taking the action that it did, given the representations made by officers.

With the ongoing legal fight with Elite Sportswear said to be worth up to £9.5 million [Daily Record], this fresh confrontation is a further distraction that we can do without, given the obvious financial implications.

These legacy matters, as well as more recent issues, point to the extent of the challenge facing new chairman John Bennett and incoming chief executive officer James Bisgrove. Moving forward, the club must get on top of its contracts and suppliers so that these costly court matters are consigned to the past.

There have been too many issues for too long, it is not good for the club as a brand as well as the costs affecting other priorities.
