Rangers transfer news as Jack Butland move gets closer at Ibrox

Rangers are getting closer to completing the signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old England international is currently on loan at Manchester United from the Eagles and is out of contract this summer.

The same outlet previously reported that (8 May) red tape had emerged in The Light Blues’ quest to sign the goalkeeper, with a deal being deemed too expensive for their budget.

“Sportsmail also understands the Ibrox club is getting closer to landing experienced goalkeeper Jack Butland,” the Daily Mail wrote.

“Chelsea right-back Dujon Sterling and Norwich midfielder Kieran Dowell have already pledged their futures to the club, with Rangers also pursuing a £4million deal for Honduran international winger Luis Palma.”

Moving in right direction

Although the transfer window hasn’t even opened yet, it feels like the transfer pursuit for Jack Butland has been going on for an age.

Despite Robby McCrorie displaying his talents by keeping consecutive clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership, including an impressive showing against Celtic, Michael Beale will still look to bring in a goalkeeper this summer.

With both Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin both set to leave Ibrox at the end of the season, McCrorie is currently going to be the Gers’ only realistic first-team option in between the sticks for next season.

A move for Butland makes sense on so many levels.

Much like Celtic’s purchase of Joe Hart, the Manchester United loanee has bags of Premier League and international experience under his belt and looks tailor-made for the pressure of an Old Firm derby.

Rangers are in need of a leader to replace McGregor in the dressing room next campaign, and it looks like the club are getting closer to making the 30-year-old part of the new spine under Beale.

In other Rangers news, the madness has begun as the Light Blues close in on a brand new multi-million pound transfer.
