Rangers ace Alex Lowry sends ‘experienced pros’ Ianis Hagi and Scott Arfield warning ahead of new campaign

Rangers youngster Alex Lowry has warned “experienced pros” Ianis Hagi and Scott Arfield that he has ambitions of taking their positions in the first team.

The 19-year-old has made three Scottish Premiership appearances this season, as well as playing in one Champions League match with injuries halting his chances.

He has now revealed his plans to play more regularly under Michael Beale in the upcoming season.

“The manager has given a lot of young players a chance but I know it’s not easy to get games for Rangers and I have experienced pros like Ianis Hagi and Scott Arfield who play in my position,” said Lowry, as quoted by the official Rangers website.

“Playing as an attacking midfielder or winger are my best positions so I need to play at their level and maybe do stuff they don’t do in games to try and get in the team.

“It’s obviously a huge challenge but it’s one I am up for.”

Bright future ahead

Given the massive shake-up that is expected at Ibrox this summer, Lowry will definitely find it hard to impress his manager, who will no doubt bring in new faces that play in the same position as the teenager.

What he can do, however, is continue to work hard on the training ground and even in the final few weeks of the current season, with Beale proving that he is more than happy to give youngsters minutes now that there is nothing to play for.

Lowry was one such youngster to get two minutes in the 2-0 win over rivals Celtic on Saturday (13 May), meaning he is certainly at the forefront of the manager’s mind.

The futures of Arfield and Hagi do remain uncertain, but Beale will more than likely rely on those more experienced figures rather than Lowry in the early stages of next season.

But that won’t dishearten the youngster, who seemingly has a bright future ahead at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Alfredo Morelos took to Instagram to share a message as he is set to seal a permanent exit from the Ibrox outfit this month.
