Official Rangers partner reacts to Graeme Souness takeover rumours after Ibrox legend meeting with club
Graeme Souness is not fronting a Rangers takeover and is not set to join the club in a boardroom capacity, Heart & Hand Podcast reports.
Online rumours had been circulating that the former player-manager and ex-Sky Sports pundit was set to be the face of a new regime for the Light Blues.
But that has been strongly debunked and a recent meeting between the 70-year-old and Rangers was on a much more informal basis regarding unspecified future support.
Reporting via Twitter Heart & Hand wrote: “Souness Rumours – he’s not fronting a takeover (there is no takeover) and not joining as a DoF or anything like that.
“Club met with him to discuss working together in future on things but that’s as far as it went at moment. GS loves Rangers and wants to help where he can.”
Pie in the sky
While plenty of Gers fans might love the idea of the former midfield general leading a new era in the boardroom it is highly unlikely that something like that is on the cards.
Clearly there has been all manner of upheaval within the Ibrox hierarchy in recent months, with Douglas Park abruptly stepping down to be replaced by John Bennett [BBC Sport, 4 April].
Ross Wilson has departed to Nottingham Forest and Stewart Robertson is also set to leave with James Bisgrove moving into his position as CEO [Sky Sports, 25 April].

Some sections of the fanbase have been calling for such change ever since the 55th title win was squandered and Celtic allowed to get back to the top in Scottish football.
While change is afoot on and off the pitch, with Michael Beale looking to lead the revival with a summer rebuild of the squad while the overhaul in the boardroom continues in the background, a grand return for Souness and company appears to be off the table.
A lot of the recent moves seemed unlikely just a matter of months ago so it is impossible to say never to most things at the moment, but this one seems to not have legs.
In other Rangers news, there are two “done deals” already and confidence that a third summer signing is set to follow.
