John Bennett splashes cash at Rangers after 'megabucks' PL club development

Dujon Sterling has knocked back a new contract from Chelsea – and that could indicate Rangers are looking to splash the cash this summer.

According to The Scottish Sun on Tuesday 16 May, the 23-year-old has rejected a new deal with “megabucks” Chelsea and one other club. Stoke City are believed to be interested in the defender after he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at the Championship side.

However, Sterling now looks set to move to Ibrox after snubbing both offers. The Scottish Daily Mail claim the defender has now passed his medical ahead of signing on the dotted line.

The fact that he has turned down a new contract at Chelsea in favour of the Gers is excellent news. Chelsea would’ve been offering him a competitive salary and the fact Rangers can compete financially shows that John Bennett and the board are backing Michael Beale during his summer overhaul.

We all know a summer of change is afoot and it’s exciting to see a number of players already in the pipeline before the season has concluded.

Jack Butland and Kieran Dowell are the other two names who have been consistently linked with a move to Ibrox. Hopefully, this is just the start for the Gers. The win over Celtic has somewhat brought the fanbase back on side after the trophyless campaign.

A number of new additions coupled with a fast start to the season and an early season win over the Hoops would be the ideal way for the Gers to kickstart the 2023/24 campaign. Let’s hope this level of ambition continues.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
