Kris Boyd predicts ‘Massive Overhaul’ at Rangers live on Sky Sports after what he saw v Celtic

Kris Boyd is still expecting a major overhaul at Rangers in the summer despite their 3-0 win over Celtic in the final Old Firm clash of the season.

Gers claimed all three points thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell, John Souttar and Fashion Sakala at Ibrox, to earn Michael Beale his first win against Celtic at the fifth attempt.

But after seeing a much-changed starting lineup while live on Sky Sports (13 May, 11:36), Boyd admitted he could only see a long-term future at the club for four or five players and insisted there would be a “massive overhaul” during the upcoming summer transfer window.

“I think it was different then because you look at it with Walter Smith and we were building for the future,” he said. “We’d already signed a few players and we were looking forward to next season.

“I look at this group of players and I look at the team that’s starting today and I don’t really see many of them being here next season. I think there will be an overhaul at Rangers this summer so it’s two different matches, two different outcomes.

“You look at the Rangers team right now and I think it’s a shadow of what Michael Beale will want it to look like.

“I look at the Rangers team starting today, and I think four or five players that you’d probably start the season with next season.

“There’s going to be massive overhaul, we’ve already seen it at boardroom level in terms of the changes there. It’s going to filter down to the pitch, there’s no doubt about it.

“Things need to change at Rangers, it’s been stale for a number of years now. From Rangers point of view, the recruitment has been nowhere near good enough and as I say, there’s going to be a massive overhaul in the summer.”

Ruthless

Beale hasn’t been very ruthless since coming to Ibrox despite speaking a good game, with a number of players that don’t have a future still being involved regularly.

The likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent should have been left out of the side a long time ago because they have no intention of sticking around beyond the summer, but he hasn’t done it until very recently.

Now though he is giving players an opportunity to perform and they are showing him how much they want to be here and what they can offer.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they will all be good enough though and he will be forced to make some big decisions in the summer about outgoings as well as incomings for next season.

There has to be big changes because this season simply hasn’t been anywhere near good enough. If Beale wants fans to take his words seriously, he has to deliver.
