Andy Walker rages at Yuki Kobayashi defending for John Souttar goal in Rangers win v Celtic
Andy Walker was furious with Celtic defender Yuki Kobayashi for his attempt at defending for John Souttar’s goal as Rangers claimed their first Old Firm win of the season.
The Gers picked up all three points thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell and Souttar in the first half with Fashion Sakala adding in the second half, handing Michael Beale his first win against the green side of Glasgow at the fifth attempt.
But after seeing Souttar head home after 33 minutes to make it 2-0, Walker reacted in disgust live on Sky Sports [13 May, 13:06] when analysing the goal.
“These goals are as cheap as they come,” he said.
“All credit to Souttar for being determined to win the header, but [there is] no-one near him. No jump, no effort, no determination from the Celtic defence to try and get on the end of that ball into the box.
“Souttar meets it, generates power to put it into the back of the net. Delighted for him.”
Brilliant
For once in these Old Firm games it was the Rangers players who were showing real fight and desire to be first to the ball.
While it has to be noted that it was a weakened Celtic side on the day, the performance from Rangers was among the best of our season as we played on the front foot with great intensity and no fear.

Souttar showed his great strength and aerial ability with the goal, and it was a pretty unstoppable header to make it 2-0.
That gave the team the breathing room on the scoresheet to relax a little as it was a period in which Celtic were starting to come into the game more and become more dominant.
It’s not something to look too much into because of the circumstances surrounding the game, but if we can perform at a similar level next season with more of the players that Beale wants in the team then there’s no reason we can’t get a similar result too when it matters.
In other Rangers news, one 5/10 flops in player ratings from win v Celtic.
