Robby McCrorie can solve Michael Beale dilemma after Jack Butland transfer complications at Rangers

Robby McCrorie faces the most important month of his Rangers career as he looks to prove to Michael Beale that he deserves a spot in the first team beyond this summer.

The Light Blues’ third-choice goalkeeper was offered his first start of the 2022/23 season last weekend, making a number of strong stops from the likes of Duk and Bojan Miovski to record an impressive clean sheet.

Chris Jack reported on Thursday (11 May) that it is now or never for McCrorie at his boyhood club, with just four games of the Scottish Premiership season remaining and Rangers in advanced talks to sign Manchester United loanee Jack Butland.

However, despite the Gers looking like they were closing in on the signing of the former England international, the club have been hit by a number of complications in their quest to get the signing over the line.

The Daily Mail recently shared that a deal for the 30-year-old could now be hampered by red tape, with a deal deemed too expensive and Crystal Palace also having an option on Butland’s contract at Selhurst Park.

Considering Rangers also have several other areas of the pitch they need to invest in, including centre-forward and central midfield, McCrorie can help Beale solve a transfer dilemma by delivering a string of strong performances before the season’s close.

With Allan McGregor expected to retire and Jon McLaughlin surplus to requirements at Ibrox, it looks like there will be few options for the English manager to call upon in between the sticks next season.

If McCrorie is handed the opportunity to start any of Rangers’ final games of this campaign, and subsequently delivers the goods on the pitch, he could go on to save the club a precious wedge of their summer budget.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are readying a £6million bid to sign one international striker amid the likely summer exit of Antonio Colak.
