English quartet en route to Rangers as Michael Beale lays down Ibrox transfer blueprint

Rumours have been rife in recent weeks at Rangers with there being numerous players linked with summer moves to Ibrox.

Michael Beale’s focus is now firmly on ensuring the Light Blues are competitive in the 2023/24 season, particularly after Celtic wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title. Ange Postecoglou’s side are closing in on a domestic treble and it’s something which cannot happen next year.

It’s clear that work needs to be done. The squad lacks quality and a number of English players are already rumoured to be on their way to the club.

Rangers

The Daily Record suggested on 2 May that Jack Butland is in advanced talks with the Light Blues. The 30-year-old shot-stopper is currently on loan at Manchester United from Crystal Palace. The Premier League veteran would be an excellent replacement for Allan McGregor.

Another Englishman who has been linked with Ibrox is Norwich City midfielder, Kieran Dowell. The Herald’s Chris Jack claimed on 8 May, that the Gers are “poised” to sign the 25-year-old, who is nearing the end of his contract at Carrow Road.

Rangers

Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling is reportedly close to making the move north of the border (Evening Standard, 11 May) and West Brom striker Karlan Grant is also a name that has been mentioned (Twitter, Darren Witcoop, 10 May).

Beale has laid down his transfer blueprint. He’s eager to recruit predominantly English players who have EFL experience. It’s a strategy which could work. There’s a good chance the Championship quality will make Rangers competitive against the lesser sides in the Scottish Premiership.

However, questions will be asked on whether these English players are capable of regularly beating Postecoglou’s men. That’s the acid test. When the new campaign begins, the Rangers boss will have nowhere to hide.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player.
