Adam Devine could leave Rangers on loan as Michael Beale closes in on Dujon Sterling signing
Rangers could allow young defender Adam Devine to leave Ibrox on loan this summer as they edge closer to the signing of Dujon Sterling.
The Gers are on the verge of completing the free transfer of Chelsea defender Sterling on a long-term contract to bolster their defensive options for next season.
And according to the Scottish Sun (11 May), that could allow for Devine to leave the club temporarily to get regular football elsewhere with Sterling providing competition and cover for James Tavernier at right-back plus Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz at left-back.

“Naturally a right-back, Sterling has also had plenty of game time as a left-back for Stoke this season, and has occasionally been used as a wide midfielder too,” they wrote.
“He can also operate as a wing-back if required.
“Sterling could therefore be viewed as the long-term replacement for skipper James Tavernier, and in the meantime would provide depth behind him and perhaps allow Adam Devine to go out on loan, whilst giving Beale other options at left-back beyond Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic.”
Important
Devine stepped into the first-team picture well in Beale’s first games as boss while Barisic was at the World Cup and Yilmaz was injured, but hasn’t been seen since.
But first-team football is an important part of his development and he needs to be playing regularly to keep improving and potentially have a future at the club.

With Tavernier now into his 30’s he won’t be around forever and the club should be planning for life after him even though he is still going to be first-choice.
Allowing Devine to leave on loan would see regular football for everyone and then he can come back next year a more improved and well-rounded player who can compete for a place or be sold on for a greater amount.
Sterling is an interesting signing and will come in ahead of Devine in the pecking order, so a loan move away certainly suits all parties involved.
In other Rangers news, a European club are seriously interested in one Ibrox star this summer.
