Craig Moore refuses to rule out Rangers director of football role

Former Rangers captain Craig Moore has refused to rule himself out of the race to be the new sporting director at Ibrox, when asked about the position on the Go Radio Football Show [09 May].

Following the recent departure of Ross Wilson, there is a vacancy for the senior position at the club, ahead of a pivotal summer rebuild for the 55 times champions of Scotland.

Moore referred to a very similar role that he held, previously, with the Australian FA when talking about what is required at Rangers.

When asked if he would take on the role, Moore didn’t say no, whilst making the case for his fellow countrymen in the game.

“You laugh a bit, but that was a job I did for three years,” he said.

“Then people go ‘it was only Australia’ but look at what Ange (Postecoglou) has done. Jon Brady, an Australian coach, has just got promotion at Northampton.

“For me, it’s important Australians do well because in regards to football, there is still that attitude at times of ‘what does he know?’, we know a bit.”

Moore went on to add that he would consider suitable bids for any player in Michael Beale’s squad, due to the finance required to fund what is required in the coming months.

Contender

Moore has an excellent understanding of Rangers, the culture and demands in Glasgow as well as what is required at the moment.

He spends a lot of time in his former home, with a lot of connections in football as well as the media, including his involvement with Go Radio.

All things considered, especially his recent work as a football agent, it is clear that he has the credentials to be a contender for the sporting director role at Rangers. The rest is between him and the club.

There should be a strong shortlist for the position, with Beale having a strong say as well as chairman John Bennett and chief executive officer James Bisgrove. The latter two will have the casting call as it should be a top-down decision, separate from the manager who could leave the club at some point.

It is yet another crucial decision for Rangers, as the club is shaped on and off the pitch, for what will be a defining period ahead.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox attacker is on his way out of the club with MLS sides showing interest, according to this report.
