Rangers news on Alfredo Morelos to leave Ibrox directors stung - Chris Jack
Rangers directors will be left stung by the departure of Alfredo Morelos on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to Chris Jack.
Michael Beale confirmed after the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at the weekend that the Colombian striker would be “moving on” from Ibrox this summer when his contract expires. [BBC Sport, 8 May]
The 26-year-old has been a prominent figure at Rangers since arriving in 2017, netting 78 goals during his time and becoming the club’s record European goalscorer.
“Today, the season that started with more disciplinary issues and questions over his physical shape and mental frame of mind will end with him leaving Rangers on a free transfer,” Jack wrote for Herald Scotland (9 May).
“That will sting the directors as much as the supporters but it is not the biggest frustration when it comes to Morelos.
“It did not need to be this way.”

Frustrating end
After many highs in the Rangers top, Morelos’ time at the club is ending in a whimper.
The striker has always divided opinions within the fanbase, but there is no arguing that when at full fitness, there are few better strikers Rangers could have wished for.
The frustrations for Rangers directors will be the seemingly untapped potential of the Colombian which has been overshadowed by disciplinary issues and fitness concerns over the years.
This season Morelos has been nowhere near top shape and it is clear that Michael Beale has had enough of his antics at Ibrox as he looks to wipe the slate clean ahead of next year.
Beale lamented the forward’s lack of energy when coming from the bench last weekend, and this was as clear a sign as any that the two aren’t aligned in their thinking for the club.
It is a frustrating end to Morelos’ career, but at the end of the day, it looks like the correct decision has been made.
