Michael Beale sack decision to be made at Rangers, John Bennett already has excuse at the ready
There is a case to be made for Rangers chairman John Bennett “making a call” on Michael Beale continuing in the dugout, according to Gary Keown.
The Gers are currently 13 points behind rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, with that gap leading to pressure building on manager Beale.
And Keown has suggested that Bennett already has the excuse to sack the manager should next season not start well, with Beale having never been the chairman’s choice to lead the team.

Writing in the Scottish Mail on Sunday (7 May, page 127), Keown said: “Of course, there’s a case to be made for Bennett and Co making a call on Beale right now. As discussed here previously, unless [Ange] Postecoglou plunges Celtic into some kind of turmoil by leaving in the summer, there is little to suggest the 42-year-old Londoner has the materials in his locker to put Rangers back on top.
“There’s not a heck of a lot on new CEO James Bisgrove’s CV to say he is the right man for his job either, but one thing is clear. Rangers are changing the way they work. That’s going to be spelled out in greater detail pretty soon, but there seems a desire to streamline the place, improve communication, bring in extra investment and end much of the amateurism of recent times.
“If the evidence of the past few days is anything to go by, the ruthlessness widely associated with multi-million-pound businesses will be part of the landscape too. And if next season doesn’t start well, Bennett and Bisgrove can say, with some reason, that Beale was never their man.”

Nobody safe this summer
There is undoubtedly set to be a major shake-up at Rangers at the end of the season given how far the club have fallen behind fierce rivals Celtic.
There is not only a huge points gap in the Scottish Premiership table, but the Gers have lost out on silverware at the hands of Celtic due to the League Cup final loss, and potential silverware due to the Scottish Cup semi-final loss.
Given the huge change that has already taken place in recent times, it seems that no one is safe at Ibrox this summer, not even Beale.
The manager will, however, be confident enough that he will be given at least some time to fix the problem, beginning with bringing in the right players and letting go of the ones not up to the challenge.
But that is an area that Beale must get right this summer, with far too many transfer failings having taken place at the club in recent seasons.
In other Rangers news, one pundit has urged the club to be more like Celtic in the transfer window as they’re letting Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos leave for free.
