Legal battle now on cards at Rangers after latest court news - Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that another legal battle is on the cards at Rangers with Elite Sportswear set to go ahead with their case against the club.
Despite going into administration, the group will go ahead with their £9.5million case after suing the club last November over a loss of kit sales.
The finance expert admitted that with both sides set to win and lose in some aspects, an out-of-court settlement may be the best suggestion for an outcome.
“Nothing is ever a sure bet,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“There are some interesting back stories to this as well, the fact that the Elite Sportswear group went into administration and went quiet a little bit, you’ve got Rangers stating in their accounts that they don’t see this as an issue, so they’ve not accounted for it, yet to see it come back around and here we go again.

“So, there are never any sure bets with this, it will become a legal case and the legal complexities that come with it, you’re speculating slightly as to an outcome, but what we tend to see a lot of the time are these out of court settlements that nobody wins entirely but nobody loses entirely, so that may be a play here.
“Obviously, you never know as Elite Sportswear think they’ve got a case to take and if they are in a tricky position themselves, they’ll look to push as much as they can, the club will look to fight that so somewhere in the middle seems plausible.
“With these legal battles, you never quite know where the outcome will fall.”
John Bennett has only been chairman of Rangers for a matter of weeks, but with the number of changes and challenges off the pitch, it’s hard to imagine he has gained much sleep.
It will be interesting to see how this one ends with the legal battle going ahead, although the sooner it is settled and finalised, the quicker everyone can move on.
In other Rangers news, the club are in line for a multi-million windfall from the Premier League after a £10m Auchenhowie milestone was reached.
