Kieran Dowell shakes hands on three-year Rangers contract, pundit thrilled with ‘talented’ ex-Everton ace

Pundit Michael Ball is thrilled that Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign Norwich City ace Kieran Dowell.

The Canaries midfielder has “shaken hands” on a three-year deal at the Scottish Premiership side, according to the Daily Record.

And former Rangers defender Ball is expecting big things from the attacker, who reminds him of former Manchester United and Tottenham star Teddy Sheringham.

“He’s a talented boy,” said Ball, as quoted by the Daily Record. “He’s a technical type who is very clever in the way he drops deep and finds space.

“He’s got an eye for goal too but he also likes to bring the players around him into play. The fact Rangers are coming in for him shows he’s been doing well for Norwich.

“He’s different to what Rangers have at the moment. Keiran’s not going to be like Ryan Kent and hang out wide. He reminds me a lot of Teddy Sheringham. He’s not going to score you 25 goals a season but where he’s effective is linking up with those around him.”

Only the beginning

Rangers supporters were in desperate need of a boost after their disappointing 1-0 loss to Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday (30 April), and it looks like they have got it in the form of Dowell.

The talented midfielder has proven to be a top player in recent seasons, with many fans already predicting an exciting Ibrox career for the former Everton man.

His Premier League and Championship experience will be key to helping him settle into Glasgow as soon as possible, with the Gers aiming to take the fight to Celtic at the very beginning of next season.

Dowell should be itching to get onto the pitch at Ibrox in what is a big step in his career, with the opportunity to play European football next season seemingly too good to turn down.

But it is definitely just the beginning of many new arrivals at the club, with Michael Beale set to switch things up massively in terms of incomings and indeed outgoings.

In other Rangers news, one Sky Sports pundit has boldly claimed it could be “lightyears” before the Gers topple Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
