Barry Ferguson predicts Rangers to ‘cash in’ on Antonio Colak as exit claim made

Barry Ferguson expects Rangers to “cash in” on striker Antonio Colak this summer, with the attacker not wanting to play “second-fiddle” under Michael Beale.

The out-of-favour forward could leave Ibrox at the end of the campaign, particularly given how he has recently changed his agent.

The Gers would undoubtedly receive a substantial fee for his services, with Colak the club’s joint-top scorer in all competitions this season and costing £1.8million less than 12 months ago.

“In terms of Colak, I get the impression that if he isn’t going to be the main number nine, I don’t think he will want to stay,” Ferguson told Go Radio, as quoted by the Daily Record. “And I think Michael Beale wants to bring in a number nine.

“So I think Colak, if he is looking at it, he doesn’t want to play second fiddle. And he has a couple of years left on his contract, and I believe if he doesn’t think he will be the number one striker, I think he will want to go and Rangers will cash in.”

Uncertain future

Colak has enjoyed a very strong debut campaign in Scotland, with the striker netting 13 goals from his 24 Scottish Premiership matches so far.

The 29-year-old also netted three times in Champions League qualifying and once in the League Cup, taking his tally to 17 goals in all competitions.

It seems crazy then that the forward is struggling for regular game time under Beale, with Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala instead often chosen to lead the line.

Colak was banging the goals in upon his arrival from PAOK last summer, but has largely been limited to substitute appearances in recent months.

He could, of course, be given a more prominent role next season should Morelos make an Ibrox exit at the end of the current campaign, but it seems unlikely given his current struggles to impress Beale.

But Colak may not want his future to be dependent on another player, with the forward definitely capable of being a regular hitman for a top team elsewhere.

In other Rangers news, one Sky Sports pundit has boldly claimed it could be “lightyears” before the Gers topple Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
