Alex Lowry could leave Rangers with ‘massive’ Ibrox news on cards – Pundit

Tam McManus believes Alex Lowry could leave Rangers in the summer if he isn’t given game time between now and the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 19-year-old has only featured twice in the Scottish Premiership during the 2022/23 campaign, with his last outing coming against Hearts in December 2022.

Talking on the PLZ Football Show, McManus believes Lowry, along with Leon King and Adam Devine will depart unless he is given substantial game time.

Rangers

“I think if Michael Beale really believes in them I think he will play them in between now and the end of the season,” said McManus (PLZ Football Show 42m 39s, 3 May).

“If he doesn’t I don’t think you’ll see them at Rangers next year. Alex Lowry, Leon King and Devine. If he thinks they are going to be Rangers players going forward, he will give them a few games between now and the end of the season. There’s nothing to lose.

“He’s got to know if they can handle it, two or three games, the big expectant crowds at Ibrox. I would play them and as I say, I think there will be massive changes at Rangers during the summer if Beale believes they’re good enough then he will play them, if he doesn’t play them between now and the end of the season, I don’t see them having a future at Rangers.”

Nothing to lose

Lowry has to be given minutes. Rangers’ season is now dead and buried, there is simply nothing to play for. They are going to finish second, there’s no silverware on the line, Beale would be mad not to give the youngster a consistent run in the side.

The same can be said for King. The young defender has committed his future to the club but has seen his gametime decrease. McManus is right, if they don’t play between now and the end of the campaign, they will more than likely be moved on.

Rangers

Younger players need to be playing regularly in order to develop. Potentially a loan move elsewhere could benefit the trio. Beale now has the perfect opportunity to get his squad in the best shape possible heading into the new campaign. It’s almost like an extended pre-season for the Rangers boss and it’s something he must take advantage of.
