Rangers transfer update: Glen Kamara sale ‘inevitable’ with club set to bank ‘significant return’
Glen Kamara’s departure from Rangers is “inevitable” this summer and the club are set to make a solid profit on the £50,000 fee they originally paid, says Chris Jack.
The Finnish international midfielder’s contract still has another two years to run at the end of the current campaign, making him one of few exit-bound players who hold much transfer value amid a slew of expected free transfer departures.
He has struggled to make an impact under Michael Beale and has only completed 90 minutes six times in all competitions for the Light Blues this season, and while he won’t net the club as much as he would have done if he’d been sold in previous windows when he form was stronger Jack expects him to go and bring in money this summer.

Jack wrote in The Herald on Tuesday (2 May): “Glen Kamara is one of the few assets in the squad ahead of his inevitable departure.
“Kamara has seen his value plummet after being retained for a season too long and [John] Lundstram will struggle to be a regular starter next term if the required reinforcements arrive.”
He followed it up for the Glasgow Times a day later, saying: “At 27 and with two years left on his deal, Kamara simply must be sold this summer and Rangers will make a significant return on the £50,000 that was paid to Dundee in 2019.”
Every little helps
Missed opportunities are a running theme when assessing the current Bears squad, with the impending exits for Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent for a grand total of nothing the headline examples.
The club struck at the peak of Calvin Bassey’s market value last summer after his eye-catching performances in the Europa League, although it was far from the £19million-plus [Sky Sports, 20 July] that went back into the squad.
Arguably the failure to get any return on Morelos was taken out of their hands by his untimely thigh surgery last season, but with another summer requiring major work on the squad in an attempt to chase down Celtic there isn’t a Bassey or a Joe Aribo to profit from.

Money can still be brought though in if players are moved on, and with Kamara peripheral under Beale is would make sense if he is one, assuming there is a willing buyer out there.
He’s a good player who has certainly contributed across 190 appearances in a Light Blues shirt but if the club are serious about an overhaul he surely does go.
The scale of the potential shopping list for Beale necessitates as much of a budget as can possibly be put together, and Kamara’s current standing in the squad likely makes any transfer fee more valuable to the manager.
In other Rangers news, one Ibrox flop may be earning more than the combined talents of stars at Celtic believes a furious pundit.
