Rangers takeover news as official Ibrox partner reacts to rumours

David Edgar, anchor of Heart and Hand podcast, has reacted to Rangers takeover rumours that are gathering pace online yet again.

Edgar has addressed the shareholder situation at Ibrox, which would make any potential buyout a complicated process as opposed to a single transaction.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Rangers director of finance and football administration Andrew Dickson would be the latest high-profile departure from the club, ahead of a rebuild on and off the pitch for next season.

Edgar provided a useful synopsis of what would be required in the event of any meaningful change of ownership in Rangers.

“To take over the club, a party would have to complete a number of purchases from Park, King, Bennett, etc. It’s not a case of one deal, it’s several,” he stated.

“WhatsApps about ‘someone buying the club’ are usually just wishful thinking.

“Investment is different but anyone wanting to buy the club would have a complicated process ahead, it wouldn’t be a simple transaction.

“The likelihood of such a series of deals being concluded without leaking to mainstream press rather than just ‘I got a text’ is low. Too many interested parties in it.”

Social media is largely responsible

In days gone by, outlandish football rumours would be the preserve of pub chat or gossip columns in the newspapers but in the present, social media provides the stage for such content.

With Rangers going through a period of change on and off the pitch, including the much-publicised resignations from the board, fans are desperate to hear from new chairman John Bennett on what the plan is, and what exactly is unfolding on Edmiston Drive.

Without such information and until an address is made, likely to happen once the exits come to an end, the vacuum will be filled with claims and baseless rumours on social media.

Edgar has commented on this stuff due to the increase in noise in recent days, but as he pointed out in his tweets, rather than a full-scale takeover, “investment would be more likely in this instance but to what degree is the question?”

This is certainly something to keep an eye on though.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues were snubbed by a transfer target despite holding a meeting with the club.
