Kemar Roofe seeing specialist to recover from calf problem as Rangers future hangs in balance

Kemar Roofe has travelled to Qatar to see a specialist in order boost his recovery from a calf injury with his Rangers future on the line.

The striker hasn’t featured since February after injuring his calf in a win over Livingston and isn’t expected to return until next season.

But with Michael Beale promising a major overhaul of the squad, Roofe’s place in the squad is far from guaranteed and the 30-year-old shared an image on his Instagram of his travels where he is looking to recover.

Needed

Alfredo Morelos is almost guaranteed to leave the club at this point, and Antonio Colak is not really Beale’s cup of tea as a striker.

But he has already made it clear that Roofe has a place in his squad if he can get fit and stay that way, but that seems like a big long shot considering his health issues in recent seasons.

Roofe is a natural goalscorer and if he is able to get back to full fitness and give Beale an extra option in the squad to choose from to fire us forward.

He’ll only have a year left on his deal this summer so if he is unable to get fit before pre-season then the club would surely need to make a decision about potentially cashing in to be able to bring someone else in.

It’s positive for Rangers that he is making the effort to get fully fit and get healthy, but a first-choice striker is needed and it certainly doesn’t have to be Roofe.
