Tam McManus slams 'hopeless' Fashion Sakala after 'poor' moment in Rangers Scottish Cup defeat v Celtic

Tam McManus has slammed Fashion Sakala after the Zambian missed a guilt edge chance for Rangers during their 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic.

Jota’s first-half header was enough for Ange Postecoglou’s side to progress to the final where they will face Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Speaking on the PLZ Football Show, McManus was scathing of the 26-year-old’s “hopeless” performance at Hampden Park.

“Rangers were poor. Sakala who came on was hopeless. That open goal is the exact same one he missed in the League Cup final. Just a wee bit of composure, stroke it into the net. Hits the side netting again,” said McManus (PLZ Football Show, quoted by Football Scotland, 1 May).

“He was hitting balls out the pitch, crossing the ball out the park. Hopeless.”

The difference in quality between the two sides is there for all to see. Celtic are so much better in every single aspect at present and Rangers require a near-perfect summer to close the gap. On Sunday, the Bhoys didn’t really get out of first gear, yet still came away victorious.

Rangers shouldn’t have to rely on the likes of Sakala to make a difference. There should be quality on the bench that can actually change the game. Football matches are won in both boxes; Rangers are behind Celtic in both areas. They’ve gifted goals away of late and are fairly blunt in attack.

Michael Beale knows the significance of this summer’s window. He simply has to land the right players. He’s talked a good talk so far, but if results don’t change during the early part of the 2023/24 season, the pressure will quickly begin to mount on the Rangers boss.

In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player this week.
