Chris Sutton savages Alfredo Morelos live on air after Rangers Scottish Cup semi-final defeat v Celtic
Chris Sutton has unloaded both barrels on Alfredo Morelos after Rangers’ Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park.
The Colombian led the line for Michael Beale’s side as a goal from Jota sent the Bhoys through to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle F.C.
Talking live on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton produced a scathing assessment of the 26-year-old’s 2022/23 campaign.

“The truth is Alfredo Morelos has been a really good player for Rangers but at times this season he’s been a disgrace, he’s been overweight and offered very little,” (19:05, 606 Radio 5 Live, 30 April).
Wow
Even for Sutton, this is a low point. Morelos hasn’t been at his best, but to call him a “disgrace” and “overweight” is a bit over the top. He’s certainly had more controversial campaigns, that’s for sure. He clearly wants to head for pastures new, and after spending a long period of time at Ibrox, it’s hard to blame him.
It’s a shame he wasn’t sold last summer, but it’s a decision the board must live with. His departure could make space for Beale to land a quality addition who will be able to make an impact in the 2023/24 season. The recent results against Celtic show just how far the Gers need to come.

They’ve been in the game, but Postecoglou’s side haven’t played well and still picked up victories. Beale will fancy his chances if he is adequately backed in the summer window.
With a new sporting director yet to be confirmed, the Rangers boss will have plenty of control heading into the off-season. With a couple of new signings reportedly close, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more names linked with the Gers in the coming weeks.
In other Rangers news, the club are clearly playing a sick joke with their supporters after they made an announcement about a senior player this week.
